Shedding Light on Light Pollution
Our flagship community session, returning to the Club House. We cover the health effects of light pollution, skywatching tips for new astronomers and astrophotographers, and an intro to star formation and life.

Starlight · A youth-led NPO
Starlight is a youth-led non-profit raising light pollution awareness through outreach sessions, citizen science, astronomy nights and policy advocacy. We are bringing the night sky back to everyone who looks up.
Free sessions. Open to all ages — 5 to 95.
Look up ↓What is Starlight
For most of human history, the night sky was a shared inheritance — a cathedral of stars over every village and city. In a single generation, artificial light has erased it for most of the planet.
"If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would people believe and adore?"
Starlight is a youth-led non-profit working to change that. We host free awareness sessions on the health and ecological costs of light pollution, run citizen-science programs anyone can join, and push for smarter lighting policy.
Every program is free. Every age is welcome. Bring a kid, bring a grandparent, bring a question.
From classrooms to clubhouses — we run free, hands-on talks on what light pollution is, why it matters for our health and ecosystems, and what we can each do tonight.
We train volunteers of any age to measure sky brightness, log observations, and contribute data to global dark-sky monitoring networks.
We work with local bodies and lawmakers to push for responsible outdoor lighting — shielded fixtures, warmer color temperatures, and curfews where they count.
What we are working on
Our flagship community session, returning to the Club House. We cover the health effects of light pollution, skywatching tips for new astronomers and astrophotographers, and an intro to star formation and life.
Telescope nights, constellation walks, and astrophotography basics. No equipment required — bring curiosity, leave with a star map of your own.
Globe at Night, sky-quality readings, and bortle-scale logging. Your backyard observations become real data points scientists use.
We draft briefs, meet councillors, and help neighbourhoods retrofit glare-heavy lighting. Policy work that ends with the stars coming back.
Why join us
Reclaim something almost everyone before us took for granted — a sky full of stars, visible from where you live.
Learn how to read a sky-quality meter, identify constellations, and contribute observations that researchers actually use.
Light pollution disrupts sleep, migration, pollination and more. Understand the why, then help change it.
Youth-led, intergenerational, open to anyone who looks up. Find your people here.
Whether you are five or fifty, a budding astronomer or a policy nerd — there is a way in. Drop your details and we will be in touch about the next session, observation night, or campaign.
